It’s Right to Rebel

Solo exhibition at Hofstra University.
Opening reception: September 29 2:00 pm

It’s Right to Rebel includes paintings, videos and prints.  Most of the work is new has never been exhibited before.  Five paintings transform archival photographs from the Cultural Revolution (China 1966-1976). Using enlarged Xerox transfers of the photographs, they depict the practice of covering walls with diazabao, “big character posters,” widely used by ordinary people during the Cultural Revolution to
contribute to a society-wide struggle over the society’s direction. The paintings excavate a hidden history, highlighting the breadth of the rebellion even though the particular content of the historic writing is obscured.
