Jasper the Ghost

Jasper the Ghost recalls the brutal 1998 lynching of James Byrd in Jasper, Texas. James Byrd was dragged to his death behind a pickup truck by three white supremacists. His body was scattered over 10,000′ of roadway.

Jasper the Ghost consists of a 50′ section of blacktop the width of a road, a truck bumper, 500 feet of chain ascending from the truck bumper and held in the air by five telephone poles next to this roadway, and many many bones hanging from these chains. It was originally displayed at Socrates Sculpture Park in Queens NY.
